Hordaland - Europe's largest energy supplyer
The large oil and gas fields in the North Sea, close to Bergen, has transformed Hordaland into Europe's leading energy producer. Annual exports are approximately 75 million metric tonnes of crude oil from the terminals at Stura and Mongstad. The Kollsnes plant in Øygarden municipality exports 30 billion Sm3 gas per year. The supplyers from Kollsnes equals three times the energy produced annually by the Norwegian hydroelectric power plants. From the Norwegian sector the oil and gas will supply raw materials and energy for at least the next 70 years. Additionally the region has a highlydeveloped infrastructure as well as professionals with specialised skills making Hordaland an interesting site to locate new industrial businesses.
Hordaland produces 80% of the total amount of crude oil exported from Norway, and supply gas to Europe from Norway's largest gas field, the Troll field. The industry develops new technology and competence to increase oil and gas production, and simultaneously maintain the strict regulations for health, safety and environment. These are the most important installations and ship yards in Hordaland:
Kollsnes - One of the worlds largest gas terminals is located at Kollsnes in Øygarden. 120 million Sm3 natural gas can be exported every day.
Stura - At Stura in Øygarden is Norsk Hydro's crude oil terminal. Approximately 700 000 barrels of crude oil is carried daily by pipeline to Sture. Sture is also the location for a fractionation plant for unstable crude oil. The oil derives from the Oseberg field and several other fields in the North Sea.
Mongstad - Norway's largest oil refinery is located at Mongstad in Lindås. This is also the location of a crude oil terminal with a storage capacity of 10 million tonnes. A fractionation plant is also located here.
Mongstad Base is the largest supply base in Norway, with supplies both to the British and the Norwegian sector in the North Sea.
Ågotnes - Coast Center Base is situated at Ågotnes in Fjell. The supply base covers the demand for supply services to the installations in the North Sea as well as technical services.
Stord - Stord is the centre for the supply industry in Sunnhordland. Situated in Leirvik, Aker Stord has been the central supplier for development projects in the Norwegian sector for a number of years. This activity is the foundation for a number of supply businesses in the Sunnhordland region.
Bergen - important parts of Norsk Hydro's and Statoil's operational activities are situated in Bergen. More than 16 000 people are employed within the oil and gas industry in Hordaland and the University of Bergen offers education in oil and gas related activities.
